Cami de Ronda - Aïguablava to Begur

Updated: Jun 12, 2022

Aïguablava is often heralded as the most picturesque Cala on the Costa Brava and beyond doubt, it really is very beautiful. However, limited and expensive parking and hoards of tourists from Barcelona following the "Guide book itinerary" make it probably the last place on Earth I would go in the summer months. If you want to go here, my advice is to go in September and early October when the sea is still warm, the kids are back in school, there are fewer tourists and the restaurants are still open. Oh... bring your snorkel....

However, if you want to hike, you can enjoy this part of the Cami de Ronda in peace and quiet all through the winter months. This route takes you from Aïguablava to the north up a pretty steep hill for some incredible views of the bay itself and onwards to the lovely village of Begur and its castle with more great views to the north along the beach at Pals, the Medas Islands Marine Reserve and the bay of Roses.

This route (click for wikiloc) is about 10km or so and unless you are quite fit, I'd be looking at a taxi back to Aïguablava once you've finished your hike. Begur is a lovely village with some boutique shops and excellent bars and restaurants to chose from. Away from the centre of the Village, we recommend Can Nasi for rice and pasta dishes. My advice is to start the hike after a long lazy breakfast at Casa Cal Domino and then make your way to Aïguablava. Hike the trail and after exploring the castle and village, enjoy a dinner of Paella or Fiduà at Can Nasi and then take a taxi back to Aïguablava to pick up your car.
